THE Department of Health – Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Region 1 is set to dispatch volunteer doctors and nurses from DOH-retained hospitals in the region to assist fellow medical workers in the NCR Plus bubble.

This, after the DOH called for ‘reinforcements’ to augment efforts to meet challenges brought about by an unprecedented surge of COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces of Laguna, Bulacan, Cavite, and Batangas.

As of this writing, 28 volunteers enlisted: 15 from the Region 1 Medical Center, 4 from Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (TRC) Dagupan, 1 from TRC LA Union, and 8 from Ilocos Training and Medical Center in La Union (ITRMC). The number is expected to change daily.

Dr. Rheuel Bobis, focal person of DOH-CHD 1, said the reinforcement of medical frontliners will be dispatched ‘as soon as possible’.

He said DOH-R1 sent its first reinforcement of volunteers from Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Ilocos Norte, ITRMC in La Union, and Region 1 Medical Center in Pangasinan to Metro Manila hospitals last year.

Some nurses were also sent by the Nurses Deployment Program (NDP) of the DOH.

Once deployed, the volunteers will be sent to COVID-19 referral centers that include the Lung Center of the Philippines, Philippine General Hospital and  San Lazaro Hospital.
