The right and urgent thing to do

WHILE waiting for the roll out of the vaccination program in Pangasinan, the provincial government must be relentless in pressuring the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to grant the requested special permits of three bus companies to resume operations in Pangasinan (and Dagupan City).

It is the only missing link to attempts at rebooting local economy. Besides there is no reason for LTFRB not to grant the urgent request of the provincial government, not after the LFTRB granted the resumption of bus routes to and fro Southern Luzon to Metro Manila, and of late the three provinces in Region 1, to the exclusion of Pangasinan.

The regular movement of people and traders in and around Pangasinan will not only greatly complement efforts at reviving active trading in towns and cities but will normalize family relationships whose members have long been physically separated by the community quarantine in Luzon.

Our provincial government must earnestly seek the support and endorsement, too, of the mayors of the national capital region who also stand to benefit from the resumption of the inter-provincial transport routes.

Meanwhile, the request for resumption of transport services to-and-fro Pangasinan and other provinces in the region, particularly their capital cities to include Baguio City must already be sought at this time.

It is the right and urgent thing to do after a year of the pandemic which is already gradually and effectively being controlled in Luzon.

KAI Sotto is back in the US, but not after accomplishing his gallant mission here.  He came to Manila in response to a call of duty: Represent the country in the Fiba Asia Cup in Doha, Qatar.  With his 7-foot-3 ceiling, Kai could have helped secure victory for Gilas Pilipinas and shoved the country to the 2021 continental series in Jakarta in August. But COVID-19 scrapped the Qatar tournament. By coming here, Kai sacrificed his stint in the G-League, an event serving as his jumping board to the NBA, the world’s No. 1 basketball league.  His country-first attitude could harm his NBA dream, but he took the gambit. It was patriotism of the first degree.  It can amount to a medal of valor.  And consider: he is only 18. At that age, how many would embrace their country’s interest first?  Easily, Kai becomes a role model for every Filipino.  May his tribe increase.
