BASED on data collated, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) has determined that the recovery rate of persons infected with COVID-19 in the province is at 78 percent.

PHO chief Dr. Anna De Guzman said the data is obtained by recording recovery rate from the virus compared to deaths over a period.

As of 9 a.m. of Jan 14, PHO has logged three more patients that recovered from the disease bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,559 from total confirmed cases of 3,333.

There are still 643 active cases and 131 patients have died.

De Guzman added that most of the patients who contracted the virus are males with comorbidities or chronic diseases, i.e., hypertension, diabetes, etc. that trigger complications.

She said they are stricter on cases with respiratory tract infection during triage to determine and prevent the possible spread of the COVID-19 UK variant in the province.

“We are very strict in interrogating persons with respiratory tract infection if they had an exposure or travel history from outside the province to pre-empt the virus from further spreading including the new COVID-19 variant,” she said.

De Guzman reminded the public to be mindful in wearing face masks, face shields properly and observing physical distancing to protect them from acquiring the virus. (Jerick Pasiliao)
