TO CHECK COVID-19 CONTAGION

THREE local government units in Pangasinan have reimposed the liquor ban due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in their respective areas since the start of the year.

Speaking at the virtual KBP Forum on Wednesday, P/Capt. Arturo Melchior Jr., deputy chief of the community affairs office of the Police Provincial Office, said the governments of Dagupan City, Binmaley and Calasiao reimposed the liquor ban.

The three are currently on top of the watch list of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) because of their soaring number of COVID-19 cases believed to have been triggered by the Christmas holidays.

Melchor said the reimposition of the liquor ban which prohibits the selling and consumption of liquor in public and private places is a big boon to peace and order.

“Recall that during the enhanced community quarantine, there was almost no crime being registered anywhere in Pangasinan. This was partly because of the liquor ban,” he added.

At the same time, Melchor said the peace and order situation in the province remains stable since P/Colonel Ronald Gayo, police provincial director, deployed almost all personnel to the field to maintain maximum police visibility.

The police are also conducting information drive in the rural areas to stress the importance of strictly observing healthy and safety protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while also manning the border control points of the province to prevent the entry of undocumented Locally Stranded Individuals from COVID-affected areas.
