Nuezca tarnished the PNP uniform
By Leonardo Micua
THE image of the police has suffered a big blow from that outburst of unrestrained emotion of P/Sr. Master Sergeant Jose Nuezca of the Paranaque Police, who gunned down in cold blood an old woman, Sonya Gregorio and her son Frank, over a neighborhood spat in Paniqui, Tarlac.
The act of violence that was captured on video and uploaded on the web, put the nation in awe and disbelief. In an instant, Nuezca became the scorn of an entire nation, as his criminal act not only tarnished his own uniform, but the image of the PNP as an organization.
Though he is one we consider just a few rotten eggs in a basket that is the PNP, some obviously blame his organization for failing to detect his criminal instincts in the past when complaints were filed against him for various offenses.
Many wondered why he had to use brute force against two weak and defenseless persons. He didn’t have to draw his gun since the two victims were not armed and were in no position to threaten his life.
As an off-duty policeman from Metro Manila, it was not his call to respond to a disturbance in the neighborhood.
As expected, the political opposition capitalized on the incident as a new spring board to
launch a renewed attack against the government and against the PNP, accusing some of their men in uniform as killers with no respect for human rights.
Cooler heads called on President Duterte to give justice to the bereaved family of the Gregorios by applying the full force of the law against the killer who, by the way, is now under police custody and already charged with double murder in addition to the administrative charges that will surely be slapped on him that will surely result in his dismissal from the service.
It grates peoples’ nerves because it happened just less than a week before Christmas.

It is not surprising why Dagupan was not included among the cities and municipalities that have sustained the status of their drug-affected barangays and even their unaffected barangays. It is a shame that all the other cities of the province were in those lists, except Dagupan City.
Worse, not even one of the 31 barangays of Dagupan was drug cleared under the watch of Mayor Brian Lim. But wonder no more because a campaign against illegal drug is not among the mayor’s priorities.
Even underground shabu “tiagges” seemed to have flourished under the present city administration. Several shabu “tiagges” sprouted and were operating clandestinely even during the pandemic.
Some of these were located in Bonuan Catacdang, in Gueset, in Bonuan Boquig as well as in one southern barangay. PDEA and the PNP swooped down on these that resulted in the arrests of some personalities, including their maintainers as well as their customers
Was it not the driver of a top city hall official among those arrested in a suspected shabu “tiangge” in Bonuan Boquig? We hope his boss did not prevail upon lawmen so that said driver can be saved from the slammer.
Recall that PUNCH reported the arrest of a Dagupan barangay kagawad was arrested by PDEA in adjacent Calasiao a few months back.

Soon Dagupeños will wake up one day to find out that the Dagupan Water District is a deal worked out by the administration of Brian Lim in partnership with a big company in Manila. Not many Dagupeños know this as the deal, we were informed, was worked out behind closed doors and secretly. Watch out for this in 2021.
Happy New Year!
