FOUR persons onboard a Toyota Hi-Ace that traveled from Metro Manila were arrested by the police manning the quarantine control point (QCP) at the TPLEX in Barangay Palakipak in Rosales town mid-morning on December 16 for using falsified travel documents.

The suspects were identified as Daniel de la Cruz, 37, of Sampaloc, Manila, driver of the Toyota Hi-Ace with Plate Number NW-9826; and his passengers Norma Mamaril, 49, a housemaid of Barangay Naguelguel, Lingayen Rina Monteverde, 26, of Barangay San Jose Aguilar; and Oliver Palisoc, 23, of Bulaoen, Bugallon. All three were believed Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) from Manila.

The suspects were found to have used a fake Joint Task Force Covid Shield Travel Authority purportedly issued by one Edwin de Leon of Vicente Street in Sta, Cruz, Manila based on the subsequent admission of De la Cruz to the police.

QCP personnel flagged down the Toyota Hi Ace, colored gray in order to verify their travel documents and their authenticity. However, upon verification of the Quick Response (QR) code of their respective travel authority with the use of a QR scanner, it was found that the names registered therein were different from the actual possessors of the said travel authority.

The arrested suspects were brought to Rosales Police Station for further investigation while their vehicle was impounded.

Charges for violation of Article 172 (Falsification by private individuals and use of Falsified Documents) and Republic Act 11469 (Bayanihan Heal as One Act) were filed against the suspects. (Leonardo Micua)
