Sual’s Bagbag Beach closed

THE Bagbag Beach in Barangay Baybay Norte, also called ‘Little Batanes’, is closed to visitors but open to Sual residents only.

Executive Order No. 66, signed by Sual Mayor Liseldo Calugay, was made effective last Saturday, November 28.

The order closing the tourist site was prompted by the sudden influx of tourists in the area that led not only to rampant violations of the health protocol established by the IATF but irresponsible disposal of garbage by visitors.

P/Captain Fredwin Sernio, Sual chief of police, said checkpoints and inspecting teams have been deployed to ensure that visitors cannot enter the area.

Last week alone, the traffic along the road leading to Bagbag Beach was heavy because of the big influx of tourists.

Sernio said the beach will be reopened once the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) passes the ordinance citing regulations to protect the beach and the environment. Until then, the beach will remain closed to non-residents. (Leonardo Micua/PhilStar Wire Service/EVC/Ahikam Pasion)
