186 more new cases, 5 deaths last week

COVID-19 CONTAGION

AFTER a week of what appeared to be a positive development in the provincial government’s war vs. COVID-19, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) logged 186 newly confirmed active patients, five of whom died.

Last week’s new cases were only 137.  The only mitigating factor over the week was the report that 224 COVID-19 patients recovered, compared to 180 last week.

Effectively, nine months into the pandemic, the risk of COVID-19 contagion has not waned.

The 186 newly confirmed active patients brought the total number of active cases in Pangasinan to 355, at least 112 of which are from Dagupan City. Meanwhile, the number of recovered cases in the province has reached 1,136 cases and the death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 56.

The new deaths include a 71-year-old man from Lingayen who died October 22 after being confined in the hospital since October 12; a 68-year-old man from Dagupan City who died on October 21 after being in the hospital since October 9; and 81-ear- old man from Alaminos who died on arrival on October 15 but the result on the test of his specimen was available only on October 19; a 33-year-old man from Mabini who died on October 18 after suffering from shortness of breath, four days after his hospital; confinement; and a 58-year-old male from San Fabian who died on arrival in the hospital on October 17.

Overall, Pangasinan already registered 1,548 confirmed cases. Of the number, 1,197 were logged in 47 towns and cities of Pangasinan and 351 in Dagupan, an independent component city.

Pangasinan remains under the Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) like the rest of the provinces in Region 1.

To date, 40 of the 48 towns and cities or 83 percent are still infected by COVID-19.

Eight towns are considered COVID-19-free: Asingan, Basista, Burgos, Infanta, San Quintin, Sta. Maria, Sto. Tomas and Umingan. (Leonardo Micua)
