Lingayen dislodges Sta. Barbara as 2nd highest in COVID-19 cases
STA. BARBARA is no longer ranked as having the second highest number of active COVID-19 cases in Pangasinan but Lingayen.
As of October 22, the tally of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) shows Lingayen behind Dagupan in the number of COVID-19 cases at 31 as of 6 p.m. on October 22.
The capital town has edged out Sta. Barbara that logged 25 active cases after registering 92 cases, considered as the biggest spike in cases on a single day, on account of the surge of COVID-19 patients from the ranks of workers of the town’s only distillery plant.
On October 22, a 71-year-old man from Lingayen died in a hospital where he was confined for COVID-19 since October 12.
He became the fourth fatality in Lingayen from the disease.
As this developed, Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil reiterated his appeal to his constituents to comply with all the health and safety protocols prescribed by the Department of Health.
He reiterated the appeal in a meeting with barangay officials on October 22 where he ordered them to begin strictly enforcing the protocols in their respective communities.
Bataoil stressed that he will not hesitate to implement localized lockdowns if he sees that the surge of COVID-19 cases will continue as the Municipal Health Office (MHO) sees the possibility of a new spike in the number of COVID-19 positive cases if the health and safety protocols will continue to be disregarded by the people.
These include the wearing of face masks and face shields, frequent washing of hands, disinfection and observance of social and physical distancing.
The MHO also warned residents about talking and eating food inside a public transportation and called on for more aggressive contact-tracing, isolation and treatment of patients. (Leonardo Micua)
