Espino calls for intensified efforts to reverse surge

GOVERNOR Amado I. Espino III called on town and city officials from the barangay level to intensify their efforts to reverse the noted spike of COVID-19 cases in the province.

In his talk during the staging of Abig Pangasinan in San Quintin on September 19, Espino underscored the provincial government’s need for full cooperation from local leaders in order to safeguard the health of every Pangasinense.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) reported 49 new cases on September 15, its highest single-day increase of new COVID-19 cases since March. On September 16, another 26 new cases were confirmed while 38 new cases were reported on September 17. On September 18, another 18 cases were recorded.

He said the situation is alarming and efforts should be done to contain the pandemic.

As of September 19, the PHO, reported 672 confirmed COVID cases, with 213 active cases, 435 recoveries and 24 deaths.

Towns and cities on PHO’s watch list with active cases of COVID-19 are: Dagupan City (71 active cases), Binmaley (17), Bayambang (16), Calasiao (15), Urdaneta City (9), Malasiqui (8), Sta. Barbara (8), Lingayen (7), Mangaldan (7), Basista (6), Bolinao (6), San Carlos City (6), Mangaldan (5), San Fabian (5), and Mapandan (3).

Other towns and city with 2 active cases are: Alaminos City, Pozorrubio, Rosales, San Nicolas, Sison, Sual and Tayug while the following have 1 active case: Asingan, Bautista, Binalonan, Bugallon, Infanta, Labrador, Manaoag, Mangatarem, Sta. Maria and San Quintin.

Meanwhile, the 16 towns with no active case of COVID-19 are: Agno, Aguilar, Alcala, Anda, Balungao, Bani, Burgos, Dasol, Laoac, Mabini, San Jacinto, San Manuel, Sto. Tomas, Umingan, Urbiztondo, and Villasis.

Underscoring the burden being carried by doctors and nurses and other frontline workers during the health crisis, Espino urged the youth and the elders, who are among the high-risk individuals, to stay home and be extra cautious.

He reminded his constituents that the 14-provincial government-run hospitals of the province must also address other health concerns in the hospital, not just COVID-19 cases.

The governor reiterated the need for strict compliance to minimum health protocols, such as: wearing of face mask, observance of physical distancing and proper hand washing especially because tested vaccines for COVID-19 are still not available.  (PIO/SMDG)
