2nd batch of NPA returnees hailed
THE second batch of NPA returnees and their supporters were officially processed and prepared to start a new life during the ceremony held last August 12 in San Quintin town.
The ceremony for the benefit of the 72 former NPA rebels was a phase in Oplan Panagsubli launched by the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office through the Provincial Task Force to End Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC).
Those who pledged their allegiance and support to the government were enlisted as members of the Carayungan South Farmers Association led by their president Eddie Lacasandile and the South Farmers Association led by Leticia Aban.
More than P3 million worth of donations and support, mainly agricultural equipment and livelihood goods, on top of their livelihood, scholarships, PhilHealth membership and other privileges were given to the group.
P/Colonel Redrico Maranan, police provincial director, welcomed the returnees during the ceremony graced by P/Brigadier General Rodolfo Azurin Jr., police regional director.
The activity was attended by representatives of Gov. Amado I Espino III, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Technical Skills and Development Authority, Department of Education, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, the municipal mayors of Umingan and Lingayen, representatives of Sixth District Congressman Tyrone Agabas, the Philippine Army and 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company led by Force Commander P/Lt. Colonel Oliver Abayan.
Azurin said the campaign to attract rebels to lay down their arms and work with the government in improving the socio-economic conditions in the country, will continue as he urged his command to imbibe the virtue of “malasakit” (genuine concern for welfare of people) enforcing the law.
To be effective in the service, Azurin capsulized the overall strategy by the acronym MKK=K; Malasakit + Kaayusan + Kapayapaan = Kaunlaran. (Leonardo Micua/PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
