THE number of COVID-19 cases in Pangasinan as of July 2 has ballooned to 103 after the number of active cases spiked to 27 as 17 more cases were added to last week’s 10 registered cases last June 26

The increase in cases was seen as a result of the expanded targeted mass testing using the Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RRT-PCR) launched by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and the City Health Office of Dagupan among Dagupan’s frontliners.

The new cases include a 41-year-old policeman from Oblation, Bani; a 38-year-old female from Cabatling, Malasiqui; a 27-year-old female from Alipangpang, Pozorrubio; a 26-year-old female from Labayug, Sison; a 49-year-old from Sitio Bliss, Barangay Balingueo, Sta. Barbara;

A 38-year-old male from Turac, San Carlos City; a 22-year-old male from Barangay Imelda, San Jacinto; a 47-year-old male OFW of Sitio San Gabriel, Bonuan Boquig, Dagupan City, who came from the United Kingdom; a 41-year-old female from Nalsian, Calasiao;

A 30-year-old male from Malindong, Binmaley; a 21-year-old male from Barangay Dalig, Labrador; 45-year-old male from West Umingan; and a 29-year-old male from Tiblong, San Fabian; and, a 39-year-old male from Purok 3, Lauren, Umingan.

So far, Dagupan and Basista have now three COVID-19 cases each while Bani, Sual and Binmaley have two each, and one each from Infanta, Labrador, Lingayen, Bugallon, San Carlos City, Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, Malasiqui, San Fabian, San Jacinto, Pozorrubio, Sison, Umingan and Mangatarem.

The third patient from Dagupan had just arrived from the United Kingdom on June 22. Upon arrival, he was made to undergo a swab test that found him negative of the virus.

He was among those transported by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to the provinces and was dropped off in Urdaneta where he was fetched by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

As a protocol for newly arrived OFWs, he was made to take another swab test at the Region 1 Medical Center that found him positive for COVID-19. He is now confined at R1MC.

The 27-year old female from Alipangpang, Pozorrubio is an OFW who traveled to Manila to have her documents processed. As a requirement prior to here departure abroad, she was made to undergo a swab test which found her positive for COVID-19. She is now confined at an isolation facility in Manila.

All of the 27 new active cases are asymptomatic and some were advised to undergo home isolation but under strict monitoring by health authorities.

As of July 2, the number of patients who have so far recovered now total 67 with the death toll still pegged at 9. (Leonardo Micua)
