THE curfew in Dagupan City will soon be from 10 p.m. – 4 a.m.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed the ordinance on Wednesday shortening the curfew hours in Dagupan in consideration of workers who get off from work late because of their present work schedule.

Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo, who authored the measure, said the ordinance amended a previously approved ordinance setting the curfew hours from 9:00 p.m.. to 4:00 a.m.

Tamayo, however, said the new curfew period will be in effect as soon as Dagupan City transitions into new normal as may be directed by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases.

He said most of those who sought a later curfew are Authorized Persons Outside of Residence (APORS) who, by nature of their work, usually go home late at night.

P/Lt. Colonel Abubakar Mangelen Jr., chief of police of Dagupan, said he is amenable to the measure and will reactivate the police motorcycle unit to patrol the streets at night to protect the people going to their respective homes beyond 9:00 p.m.

Mangelen said the imposition of the curfew since the start of the community quarantine drastically reduced street crimes, including crimes against property, in the city.

Presently, Dagupan, like the rest of Pangasinan, is under the Modified General Community Quarantine. (Leonardo Micua)
