LSIs, OFWs return to Pangasinan
CAPITOL NEWS
IN hope of easing the burden of stranded Pangasinenses and to prevent them from getting infected, the Provincial Government of Pangasinan led by Governor Amado I. Espino III staged various operations to bring back to the province locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and repatriated OFWs.
Among the locally-stranded individuals assisted were: Filipino local workers, students, local or foreign tourists and those who are stranded in various localities.
The Hatid Estudyante program of the provincial government has already facilitated three batches of stranded students. The first batch of Hatid Estudyante program is composed of 39 students (upper left photo) who were fetched at the Saint Louis University on May 22. Second batch of Hatid Estudyante program facilitated 46 stranded Pangasinenses including 42 students, 3 parents and an employee who are fetched in two pick-points on May 25: one in SLU (upper right photo) and another at University of the Cordilleras (lower left photo) on May 25. Meanwhile, 27 students composed the third batch of the Hatid Estudyante program which is staged at the University of the Philippines Los BaƱos (lower right photo).
At present, there were about five batches of stranded Pangasinenses at the Rosales-Tarlac border and at the Mangatarem-Tarlac border who were assisted by the provincial government to enter the province.
These were initially denied entry to Pangasinan because of not following the proper procedures but were facilitated by providing their medical certificates and travel authorities from the Philippine National Police (PNP) to avoid congestion of stranded individuals in the border.
Forming part in the Balik Probinsya and Hatid Estudyante programs of the provincial government, the provincial government started launching rescue operations in Baguio City on May 22 and on May 25. Another batch of stranded students in Laguna was fetched on May 28.
To transport repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), two buses of the provincial government, one 6 x 6 rescue truck of the PDRRMO and one vehicle of the Philippine Nationa Police are on duty 24 hours a day to fetch repatriated OFWs from TPLEX-Urdaneta exit point and bring them to their respective municipalities or cities.
