LESSER rape cases have been reported since the start of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in Pangasinan.

Data shared by P/Lt. Rose Reata, chief of the Women and Children’s Protection Desk at the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, showed that during the two-month period of the lockdown from March 15- May 15, only 19 rape cases were reported, or 69.84 percent decrease.

Of this number, two of the victims are adults and 17 are children, the youngest of whom is a four-year-old while the oldest victim is 48 years old.

Seven of the incidents have been filed in court as they were reported on time, medico-legal examinations were made and the suspects were immediately arrested.

Twelve cases are still under investigation as these were belatedly reported, some of which happened in 2017, 2018, 2019 and before the ECQ was implemented.

Compared to the same period from March 15 to May 15, 2019, rape cases reported totaled 63. Of this number, 10 of the victims were categorized as adults and 53 were children.

Reata said two of the cases are incestuous rape that involved cousins of the victims as suspects while others were either boyfriends of the victim or not related at all but residents in the same village.

Towns and city that had the top number of rape cases during this ECQ period were Asingan (3), two each in Urdaneta City (2) and Villasis (2), Reata added. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
