Cop tested COVID-19 positive
A POLICE officer from Baragay Turac in San Carlos City and based in Camp Crame has tested positive of COVID-19.
The police lieutenant positive of COVID-19, was included in a health advisory regarding Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel who underwent polymerase chain reaction swab test at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine on April 7.
Those with whom he had close contact included police personnel from Barangay Cruz, Barangay Panganiban in Tayug and Barangay Navaluan in Mangaldan, all of whom were his batchmates, underwent swab tests and ordered quarantined.
His eight family members were also tested and are under strict quarantine.
San Carlos City Mayor Julier Resuello noted in his Facebook on April 15, that the police officer was still considered asymptomatic at the time when he was tested due to his exposure to a COVID-positive individual in their group.
Resuello said the police officer “allegedly breached protocols by the PNP personnel” when he left his quarantined area while awaiting the results of his test.
“He managed to breach checkpoint protocols due to his stature as uniformed personnel of the PNP. He did not disclose his condition to the authorities for his situation as he was exposed to a COVID-19 positive patient,” Resuello said.
The police officer even visited checkpoints in Barangays Magtaking and Tandoc to provide some face masks to his fellow police personnel, he added.
On April 10, the COVID-afflicted cop also visited another police-manned checkpoint in Barangay Ilang this city and in nearby Basista town, Resuello said. On April 10 and 11, there was no movement reportedly made by the COVID-positive cop.
On the early morning of April 13, he left the city to comply with an order from Camp Crame to report at 6:00 a.m. At 10:00 a.m., the result of his test was released showing him and some others in Camp Crame who underwent swab tests that they are positive with the virus.
They are now isolated in their facility.
He warned those in quarantine to “stay where you are. Do not force yourself to go home. You can be arrested because that is a breach of checkpoint protocols,” (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
