Two women, driver arrested over bribery attempt
TWO women and their driver were arrested by the police Wednesday afternoon, April 15, after they allegedly attempted to bribe police at the checkpoint in Barangay Artacho in Sison town to allow them to enter Pangasinan.
P/Major Resty Ventenilla, Sison chief of police, said the suspects were traveling from Agoo, La Union and therefore were not allowed to enter the province as protocol required by the Extreme Enhanced Community Quarantine in the province.
The two travelers wait for the police officer to complete his report charging them for bribing a police officer at the checkpoint while attempting to break the total lockdown protocol.
Ventenilla said the three were considered ‘Unauthorized Persons Outside Residence’ (UPOR), and they were unable to show any travel pass authorizing them to exit and enter the province.
Sensing they would not be allowed to pass through the checkpoint, the suspects handed P1,000 bill to a policeman at the checkpoint who in turn promptly reported the bribery attempt to Ventenilla.
The ladies, in an interview, admitted to giving the Php 1,000 bill to the policeman “out of goodwill.”
“Pang-meryenda lang sana nila. Wala kasi kaming mabili na meryenda o softdrinks para sa kanila kaya cash na lang iniabot namin”, both admitted.
The suspects are currently in the custody of Sison Police Station and will face charges of Direct Bribery and other cases in relation to the Republic Act 11469 (Bayanihan Heal as One Act). (Ahikam Pasion)
