”WE will surely rise, better and stronger”.

This was assured by former Dagupan City Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, honorary chairman of the Board of the CSI Group of Companies, in a statement on Thursday, two days after a devastating fire that razed the grocery and department stores of the CSI Warehouse-Lucao branch in Dagupan City.

Admitting that her family was devastated by conflagration that hit CSI’s flagship store, Fernandez said CSI’s grocery operations will be restored “as soon as possible, to serve the people of Dagupan with our signature low prices.”

The mall operations have been spared.

She said an official announcement on CSI’s restored operations will soon be posted on the Facebook page of CSI Mall Dagupan-Official, as she gave the assurance that that the tragedy will not stop her family from its commitment to serve the Dagupan community.

Meanwhile, Fernandez was profuse in expressing her gratitude to the firefighters who bravely risked their lives in helping put out the blaze that started at past 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday and was put under control at 9:00 p.m. or 17 hours later.

She cited the efforts of firefighters from the Panda, Dagupan Fire Station, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Dagupan, Dagupan City Water District, Dagupan Electric Corporation, Star Plaza, Barangay Malued and fire stations of Mangaldan, Binmaley, Lingayen, Bugallon, Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, San Carlos, Urdaneta, San Fabian, Mapandan and San Jacinto.

She gave special thanks to former Governor Amado Espino Jr., and his son, Governor Amado “Pogi” Espino III, PNP Provincial Director Col. Redrico Maranan and Provincial Fire Marshal Supt. Noel Gagalac.

Fernandez thanked CSI’s loyal employees who stood by the company through thick and thin, and continue to give her a lot of emotional support as she faces new challenges.

She said she still awaits the official findings of the investigation on the cause of the fire from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

She maintained that CSI exercises due diligence in regularly checking the status of electric wirings of the building and of its stores before opening and closing hours, as a regular and standard procedure.

Because of the Enhanced Community Quarantine protocol, only the gutted grocery section was opened daily to the public since its declaration.

She said the fire inconvenienced hundreds of employees, vendors, and sari-sari store owners that rely on the CSI Lucao branch for their livelihood.

“My faith reminds me that there is a reason for this suffering, there is a greater purpose, and that God does not forget his loyal believers. Let us keep our faith in Him strong amidst this dark time and pray for better days,” she added.

On another note, former Mayor Fernandez thanked all the health workers and all of frontliners who are risking their lives “to save ours”. (Leonardo Micua)
