PHO: Dengue more alarming than COVID-19
DENGUE already claimed two lives and afflicted 563 persons in Pangasinan over the period January 1 to February 24, 2020, making it more alarming than the near pandemic COVID-19 in Pangasinan.
In contrast, according to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Anna Ma. Theresa De Guzman, COVID-19 so far registered a national tally of three affected and one death, all of whom were Chinese tourists from Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus in China while no transmission of the disease has so far affected any Filipino in the country.
For the same period last year, Pangasinan registered 758 dengue cases with one death.
The record shows the youngest dengue case was a six-month baby boy and the oldest is 54 years old.
The municipalities/city placed under the dengue watch list are San Carlos City, 64 cases; Binmaley, 39; Sta. Barbara, 36; Calasiao, 33; Bugallon, 15; Umingan, 15: and Burgos, 14.
Dagupan City registered 44 cases from January 1 to February 24 this year, from 45 for the same period last year.
De Guzman said that though Pangasinan is CoViD-19-free, there is still no room for complacency as everybody needs to observe the proper hygiene and sanitation by washing their hands always and thoroughly with soap and water. She advised people to also use alcohol as a hand sanitizer.
She lauded the decision of Gov. Amado Espino III banning big events that will attract big crowd and closing public facilities of the provincial government from February 17 to April 15 as a good precautionary against the spread of CoViD-19 infection. (Leonardo Micua)
