THE provincial government is partnering with the towns of Mangatarem and Aguilar in preparing a support plan for the still uncompleted Daang Kalikasan and Daang Katutubo.

Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Officer Maria Luisa Elduayan said the two towns were designated by a newly formed provincial advisory council to spearhead the task forces for Daang Kalikasan and Daang Katutubo since the two roads are within their respective jurisdictions.

The advisory council is headed by Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil who, as congressman of the Second District, initiated the construction of the two roads that has now become tourist destinations even before their completion.

These task forces will ensure the protection of the Daang Kalikasan as well as Daang Katutubo and their surrounding areas from forest fires in view of the summer season ahead and from vandals.

Elduayan said the forest fires in the vicinities of the two roads could easily be started by motorists and visitors who indiscriminately throw lighted cigarette butts on heaps of dried leaves in the area.

An initial fund of P1 million was committed by the advisory council to be used initially by the task forces.

A fire truck was placed under the disposal of the two municipalities as well for immediate response in case of fire along the two roads.

The Daang Kalikasan is a road that will eventually connect to Zambales while the Daang Katutubo in Aguilar will soon be connected to Daang Kalikasan.

Once the Daang Kalikasan is completed, it will soon be an alternate road from Pangasinan to Zambales and vice versa. (Leonardo Micua)
