Dagupan SP mulls ordinance to regulate ambulance speed

THE Dagupan Sanggunian Panlungsod (SP) is considering a proposed ordinance regulating the speed of ambulances rushing patients to different hospitals in the city.

On a motion of Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo, SP invited P/Lt. Colonel Abubakar Mangelen Jr., chief of police of Dagupan, last week for his comments.

Mangelen said he is amenable to the proposed ordinance because speeding ambulances within the city’s busy streets pose dangers to motorists and pedestrians.

He said ambulances drive too fast in the city streets without regard to the safety of others, that is why an ordinance regulating their speed is in order, Mangelen told the SP.

Besides, he added, there is no point for an ambulance to overspeed while already within the city limit since their patients, anyway, are under a life support and always accompanied by health professionals.

The chief of police noted that big schools are located along the roads of Bolosan, Bonuan, Mayombo, and the old De Venecia road leading to hospitals. (Leonardo Micua)
