Dagupan PNP: Zero tolerance versus illegal gambling

By March 2, 2020Inside News, News

“WE have zero tolerance for all forms of gambling”.

This was stressed by P/Lt. Colonel Abubakar Mangelen Jr., chief of police of Dagupan City, when asked if the local policemen are also going after other forms of gambling other than the gambling held during a wake for the dead.

Mangelen said the crackdown against people gambling during the wake of the dead was mandated by the national and regional headquarters of the Philippine National Police, which the Dagupan Police Station is religiously enforcing.

But he said they will also go after those into drop ball, illegal jueteng, video karera, “sakla”, “bularit” or illegal cockfighting, “cara y cruz”, spider fighting, “ending” in games of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and others.

Exceptions to these, he said, are games being authorized by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) which are the Small Town Lottery (STL), lotto and even cockfighting but this must be held only on Sundays and holidays in authorized cockpits in accordance with the law.

Mangelen said ever since they effected the crackdown against people gambling during the wake of the dead, they have already arrested a number.

He said those who want to help can pay their last respects to the dead and hand over their contributions to their next of kin.

“The campaign against illegal gambling in Dagupan is a continuing activity of the Dagupan Police,” Mangelen added. (Leonardo Micua)
