Missing fisherman found alive in open sea
AFTER 4 DAYS
A fisherman from Agno town who was reported missing since Feb.13 was sighted and rescued on Monday, February 16, at about 30 nautical miles west of Balingasay, Bolinao town.
According to Naval Forces Northern Luzon (NFNL) information officer Capt. Jojit Ofiaza, NFNL Commander Commodore Caesar Bernard Valencia deployed Naval Task Force 11 to conduct a search and rescue operation for Oscar Battala Sr., 30 years old and a resident of Barangay Macaboboni, Agno upon receipt of the information from his family on Feb. 14.
“He was found alive by the NFNL and Maritime CAFGU (Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit) Active Auxiliary rescue team holding on his capsized boat,” he said.
Battala reportedly departed 11:00 p.m. Feb.13 and he was expected to return morning of Feb. 14. He failed to return after his wooden boat was capsized by big wave and strong winds.
Valencia said the case of Batalla was the fifth case of reported missing fishermen from January to February this year.
Meanwhile, the seven fishermen reported missing in the waters off Pangasinan since January are still missing. (Helen Martin)
