Dagupan runs out of face masks!

By February 5, 2020Headlines, News

AS soon as news broke out that a Chinese woman tested positive of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus while visiting Manila, many people rushed to different drug stores near them to buy face or surgical masks.

Those who were minute late, blamed everyone but themselves after being told by drug stores that they’ve run out of stock.

No, they are not buying the more expensive N-95 masks but just the ordinary surgical masks that used to cost P5 each for their protection against nCov.

Drug store keepers could only assure their new and panicky customers that the next delivery from Manila suppliers are forthcoming.

As a matter of fact, a week or two before Secretary Francisco Duque III held a press conference confirming that the first 2019 nCov case in the Philippines, there was already  a problem on where to source out face masks.

The suspicious believe the drug stores are piling on stocks for bigger profits when demand for it grows bigger.

What’s the option for those without face masks? Converting women’s brassieres as face masks became a favorite conversational topic. Others resorted to motorcycle face masks normally used for protection against the wind. (Motorcycle masks now cost P50 each that used to be P30).  Still, some women are wondering if there are more bright color choices, not just the dull sky blue color face mask that would be available soon.  Pink? Green? Yellow?

There is only one out of 20 people in the streets wearing face masks, but everyone else appear unperturbed, willing to wait for the next delivery to arrive. (Leonardo Micua)
