27 towns cleared, 14 await clearance

TWENTY-six towns, including Sto. Tomas, the only town in Pangasinan earlier considered as drug-free, remain drug-cleared as of the second week of January 2020.
This was confirmed by P/Lt. Colonel Norman Florentino, deputy police regional director for administration of Pangasinan during the KBP forum last week.
He said two other towns–San Nicolas and Basista are about to be declared drug-cleared at any time from now while 12 other towns and cities are also already awaiting approval for their drug-cleared status.
Already drug-cleared, along with the town of Sto. Tomas, are Alaminos City, Laoac, Dasol, Mapandan, Natividad, Anda, Mabini, Alcala, Malasiqui, Burgos, Sta. Maria, Sison, Aguilar, Bugallon, Lingayen, Bayambang, Mangatarem, Rosales, Labrador, Calasiao, Villasis, San Manuel, Sta. Barbara, Mangaldan, Urbiztondo, and Tayug.
Dagupan City and San Quintin remain the only city and town in Pangasinan that remain drug–affected.
Five out of 48 towns and cities in Pangasinan, are seeking recommendation from the Provincial Evaluation Committee for evaluation of their drug clearing by the Regional Evaluation Committee.
San Nicolas and Basista were already given clearance by the Regional Evaluation Committee led by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in San Fernando City and now only awaiting for formal declaration as drug-cleared.
According to Florentino, due to the drug clearing operations last year, the number of persons arrested by the police for their involvement in illegal drugs decreased by 104 cases at 1,036 as compared to 1,140 in 2018.
However, seizure of shabu increased last year at 871,224 grams as compared to 264.283 grams seized in 2018 or a variance of 621.94 grams
The volume of marijuana seized last year at 1,158.46 grams dropped as compared to 5,306.34 grams in 2018 or a difference of 4,147.173 grams. (Leonardo Micua)
