THE Dawel River Cruise introduced by then Mayor Benjamin Lim in 2012 has been relaunched.

To promote the soft relaunch of the cruise, on December 27, the Dagupan City government here has offered the cruise for tourists and residents for free.

According to City Tourism Officer Rose Teng-Mejia, the 45-munite cruise on board a thatched-roofed boat that can carry around maximum 20 passengers will be extended free initially but will only leave “daungan” (station) with minimum 15 passengers.

“Whoever wants to try the river cruise could just walk-in… but the boat will go with minimum of 12 to 15 passengers up to 20 per cruise,” she said.

She added it will traverse the Dawel River up to Watac-Mamalingling.

She clarified that the full relaunch will be done after the route for foods and souvenir stops and other amenities, i.e., massage on board, etc. shall have been finalilzed.

Mayor Marc Brian Lim, in his speech during the re-launching said, the cruise offers a serene and relaxing experience.

“You will feel you are one with Dagupan City; one with God; one with nature,” he said.

He pointed out that the finished tour program for the cruise will have more to offer once completed.

“The cruise includes the visit to the historic pillar of the then Philippine National Railways, where our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal used to ride when visiting Leonora Rivera here in Dagupan City,” Lim said.

“We need to bring more tourists because it is one way to boost economy as we will also be helping unemployed in our cities,” Lim said adding that the city also plans to put up a zipline activity as one of the added attractions in the city. (Helen Martin)
