Monsoon rains destroy crops in 6.7k hectares

— The Pangasinan Provincial Agriculture Office has recorded over PHP63.7
million losses in agriculture caused by the onslaught of the southwest monsoon
(habagat) as of Sept. 13.
In a
report to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office
(PDRRMO), provincial agriculturist Dalisay Moya said affected by the southwest
monsoon, were 752.03 hectares of rice (palay) in 18 towns that resulted in loss
of 3,155.83 metric tons of production loss, equivalent to more than P39.4
million;
28.9 hectares of corn in two towns with estimated production loss of 87.02 metric tons, valued more than P1.2 million estimated value;
85.05 hectares of assorted vegetables in four towns with an estimated volume of production loss at 3,153.79 metric tons, valued at P2.5 million;
229.53 hectares of fish ponds with an estimated volume of 87.425 metric tons of marketable sizes; 3.2 million pieces of fry, fingerlings and post fingerlings sizes and equipment with estimated loss of PHP20.5 million. (Helen Martin)
