Lingayen’s ‘lechon-bagoong’ making waves
LINGAYEN – This capital town of Pangasinan always has something more to offer with its best town product – bagoong! There’s now Lechon-Bagoong!
Mang Emilio Mari, a lechon maker from Barangay Libsong West here, and the owner of Emil’s Lechon Haus, said his breakthrough came after a successful experiment combining bagoong and his popular lechon.
He told The PUNCH, after seven years of producing and selling lechon, he decided on adding bagoong as an ingredient besides salt, garlic, onions, pepper, cheese, butter and a variety of cactus to give his lechon a different flavor to it.
He said he was convinced that Lingayen bagoong takes the taste of the lechon to the next level after Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil suggested to him to experiment with Lingayen bagoong.
Mayor Bataoil said he is happy that it worked for Mang Emilio and the town is the very first to discover and introduce Lechon-Bagoong to the public and expressed confidence that it will be a signature lechon of the town.
On September 14, Mang Emilio’s lechon-bagoong and other town products were featured at the Minda Fruit Festival held recently and lechon eaters gave it a thumbs-up.
