Bugallon quintet beat San Carlos anew
AFTER two failed tries,
finally the Bugallon quintet achieved their dream by overpowering anew their
arch-rival and defending champion San Carlos City, 99-84, to sweep the
best-of-three championship series of the 3rd Pangasinan Inter-LGU
Unity Games 2019 on September 6 at Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center
gymnasium in Lingayen.
The San Carleans fueled a strong first quarter to lead by four, 26-22, as the
vastly athletic six-foot-two forward-center Leo Gubatan did most of the damage
by pumping in 12 points alone.
But the Bugallon boys showed no fear in the second period orchestrating a 27-16
romp to grab the front in the second by nine points, 51-42. Outrebounded but
not intimidated, the Bugallon boys of Mayor Mely I. Espino and her son Second
District Congressman Jumel I. Espino in attendance, never let their foes come any
closer and instead widened the gap to 12 in the third, 73-61and further boosted
the margin by 21 points middle of the fourth and last juncture, and finally won
by 15 marks despite the searing 12-2 charge at endgame by the San Carleans.
“It’s a phenomenal effort by the team armed with determination and perseverance
that paved us to our first victory after three attempts. And most of all with
the blessing from above,” said Bugallon head coach McChris Mabazza.
Forward Adrian Malicdem scored a team high again with 28 points while Jestoni
Asuncion and Gabriel contributed 16 marks each, respectively and Valencerina
had 14.
Gubatan drained a game high 29 points while Jose Mari Estabillo and Reynato
Dizon sank 15 and 11 marks, correspondingly. (JAG, Jr.)
