Hobbit Farmville draws crowds
LORD OF THE RINGS -INSPIRED
IF you are a fan of Lord of the Rings, there’s a a hobbit house in a vast farmland in Barangay Lipit Tomeeng in San Fabian.
The development of Hobbit Farmville by couple Marcel Jon Mendoza, 37, and his wife, Genelyn, 35, of Malasiqui, was inspired precisely by the popular move series.
It immediately gained popularity barely two weeks after its pictures were posted in Facebook by its owners.

The development of the farmville concept was started last year when Marcel and
Genelyn, owners of Vibrante Salon that has at least six branches in different
areas, decided to have a place where they could have a refuge for their family
on weekends.
“I just wanted to have something that is not stressful, a stress-reliever. You
could imagine my work, from morning until night, I’m hands-on with no time to
relax,” Marcel said.
“This is not just a Hobbit house.
It’s basically a showcase of agri-tourism,” he said.
Marcel is already building a 12-room structure, each with unique Hobbit house
design, within the property where travelers can stay overnight. Three rooms
will be ready for occupancy in October. “We foresee this for people who want to
spend the night and enjoy the whole rural experience,” Marcel said.
He will also develop plantation at the vast land where visitors can enjoy pick
and pay scheme for Bahay Kubo vegetables like eggplants, tomatoes, okra,
eggplants, among others.
“It’s another reason to be health-conscious,” he said.
Marcel
said they toyed with other ideas like building angels’ houses, different kinds
of maze “but being a fan of The Lord of The Rings led me to build this Hobbit
Farmville”.
While
there are other Hobbit Houses in other places in the country, Marcel said
theirs is totally different. “Number one is the terrain because this is the
only one that you see a farm with this much interior in it,” he said.
Fourth
District Rep. Christopher de Venecia was among the first visitors of the Hobbit
Farmville as one of his thrusts is agri-tourism.
Entrance fees are P100/adult. P80 /for senior citizen, P60/child and for free
for children below 3 years old. Visitors can stay from 5: 30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Visitors can have refreshments of cold milk tea, nachos and nuts inside the
Hobbit house.
The design was conceptualized by Marcel and Genelyn with the help of his
brother and some of the items inside resemble those in the movie like the axes,
lamps, figurines, framed photos, candles, electric bulbs, wooden goblets,
tables, chairs, dressers, shelves, glass windows, and other trinkets and the
interior roof designed with painted trees.
