Pangasinan, region’s top in barangay drug-clearing operations
LINGAYEN—Pangasinan remains the top performing province in Region 1in barangay drug-clearing operations based on data in the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency’s (PDEA).
According to Carlos Resurreccion, executive Officer of the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC), the report furnished to him by Dexter Asayco, PDEA Provincial head, Pangasinan had 1,271 drug-affected at the start of the War on Drugs but already cleared 1,023 barangays or a clearing rate of 80.49 percent, the highest in Region 1.
This leaves only 248 barangays to be cleared in the province which Resurreccion said is a clear indication that Pangasinan is gaining grounds in the war on drugs.
Of the 48 towns and cities in Pangasinan, 31 is drug-cleared by PDEA with the town of Sto. Tomas as the only drug-free town since the campaign started.
To date, 12 towns and cities have been recommended to the Regional Oversight Committee for drug-clearing. Dagupan and San Quintin will be recommended soon as they complete their documentation.
La Union is second having cleared 364 (74.29 per cent) from 490 drug-affected barangays.
Ilocos Norte is third having cleared 280 barangays (53.64 percent) from 522 drug-affected while Ilocos Sur is fourth having cleared 269 barangays (43.25 percent) from 622 drug-affected.
However, six towns which were previously declared as drug-cleared have been reverted back to drug-affected because some personalities were included in the drug watch list of President Duterte. (Leonardo Micua)
