POC declares 1,203 barangays drug-cleared
OUT OF 1,271 DRUG-AFFECTED BARANGAYS
LINGAYEN– The Provincial Oversight Committee (POC) has declared another 180 barangays in Pangasinan drug cleared, bringing the total to 1,203 barangays.
This was reported by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Pangasinan on July 23.
According to PDEA Provincial Director Dexter Asayco, 1,271 out of 1,364 barangays in Pangasinan have been drug affected. “This means, only 248 barangays remain to be cleared”, he said,
Meanwhile, the status of five towns, namely Agno, Binalonan, Bautista, San Jacinto, and San Nicolas, as drug-cleared was withdrawn after noting continuous illegal trading of drugs in their communities.
Effectively, only 26 towns remain declared drug-cleared: Alaminos City, Aguilar, Alcala, Anda, Burgos, Dasol, Labrador, Laoac, Mabini, Malasiqui, Mangaldan, Mapandan, Natividad, Rosales, San Manuel, Sison, Sta. Barbara, Sta. Maria, Tayug and Villasis.
Sto. Tomas remains the only unaffected town.
According to Asayco, two conditions are considered for keep the town’s drug-cleared status.
“First, not one name listed in the President’s (Rodrigo Duterte) current narco-list belongs to that area, and second, no presence of illegal drugs would be found within thirty days, should be noted”, he said. (Ahikam Pasion)
