San Carlos City PNP reaches out to out-of-school youths
MOBILE LIBRARY PROJECT
SAN CARLOS CITY—-A novel project targeting the out-of-school youths was launched by the San Carlos City Police on May 28 to boost literacy in the communities.
P/Lt. Colonel Rollyfer Capoquian, city police chief, who introduced the project, said it is designed to boost the literacy of children who have stopped going to school.
The launching of the PNP Mobile Library Project at the Arenas-Resuello gym, here, was attended by Jesan Resuello, representing City Mayor Joseres Resuello, and Liga ng mga Barangay president Fedinand Estabillo.
Capoquian said one of their mobile units has been designed to look like a mini-library where children can read books lent by the National Library, one of the cooperating agencies.
He said the licensed teachers among the San Carlos City policemen will conduct classes for the children assembled by barangay social workers. The classes usually last from three to five hours a day per barangay.
Capoquian said the PNP Mobile Learning Library Project now considered one of the ‘best practices of the city police station, will cover all 86 barangays.
To further entice the out-of-school youth to participate, the program will be complemented by a feeding program.
With policemen in uniform conducting classes, Capoquian said children learn to have a positive impression of the police and learn of topics taught in schools.
Among the topics taught is observance of traffic rules and regulations.
Capoquian first introduced his project in Urdaneta City and credited civic citizens for supporting it.
Cooperating for the project in San Carlos City are the Liga ng mga Barangay and the Pangasinan Youth Leaders. (Leonardo Micua)
