Barrio boys who made good
LOS ANGELES, California – A 25-year old engineer who pursued a 2-year post graduate study in Energy Science and Technology at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland will graduate next month.
David Roman Espiritu-Kayanan is the only Filipino in his class. The school (FIT) is the alma mater of famed scientist Albert Einstein.
He earned a grade of 5.34 out of the maximum score of six, the highest grade pegged by the school.
After his graduation in Switzerland, Kayanan who call Barangay Balangobong his home in Lingayen, Pangasinan will leave for Singapore. He was hired by Energy System Expert Cooling Singapore as research assistant.
Since his elementary, high school and college days, Kayanan was a consistent scholar. He finished his elementary schooling at the La Salle Greenhills and high school at the Philippine Science High School.
As scholar, he studied at the University of the Philippines-Diliman where he took up electrical and electronics engineering. He graduated at the top of his class. Due to late submission of term paper, he was not allowed to graduate as summa cum laude. He settled for the second tiermagna cum laude.
Kayanan is one of the top three in the Electrical Board Examination given by the Professional Regulation Board (PRC). He was also a reviewer at the Multi-Vector Review School that prepares engineering students for the board examination.
Daryl, like his brother David, had his elementary schooling at La Salle Greenhills and high school at PSHS.
He took up Industrial Pharmacy at the UP-Manila. He is now gainfully employed in Chicago, Illinois.
Along with his mother, Margie Espiritu-Kayanan and grandmother Juliet Espiritu-Borja, Daryl will attend his brother’s graduation next month in Switzerland. (Leonardo J Galvez, Punch Correspondent)
