‘SangkaSamitan’ picks best tasting rice delicacies

THE provincial government staged the SangkaSamitan, a contest to label the best tasting rice delicacies in town, on the second day of the 3rd Pangasinan Umaani Expo on March 12 at the Provincial Nursery Compound in Sta. Barbara.
Provincial Agriculture OIC Nestor Batalla said the SangkaSamitan (most delicious) is a rice product contest which aims to showcase the best tasting rice delicacies and to educate men and women of the community of the various ways on how to prepare these different rice products.
“Dati, dala na nila rito na luto na. Ngayon, gusto namin ipakita kung paano nila iluto. Dito na nila gawin ‘yong pagluluto nang sa ganoon ay matuto ‘yong ibang mga kababaihan at kalalakihan na magluto ng iba’t ibang klase ng produkto ng bigas,” Batalla said.
The competition includes various categories such as cooking of biko, bilo-bilo, suman and tupig.
Ferdinand Leal of Sto. Tomas town garnered the top spot for the bilo-bilo category while Lorna Gundayao of San Carlos City bagged first for the biko category.
Myrna Manila from the Infanta town ranked first in the suman category while Lydia Idio of Mangatarem town earned the top spot in the tupig category.
Each winner received P3,000.00 cash prize and non-winning participants were awarded with a consolation prize of P1,000.00 each. (PIA Pangasinan)
