Dagupan IT Park, a work in progress
THE development of an economic zone, specifically and Information Technology Park, is now work in progress in Dagupan City, according to the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).
PEZA Director General Charito Plaza revealed that Mayor Belen Fernandez is already developing an IT Park in Dagupan that aims to bring the IT industries into the city.
“May IT Park na siya actually,” Plaza told newsmen in the sideline of the Technical Planning Workshop on Special Economic Zone Development Mapping for the Region I, II, III and the Cordilleras.
Plaza said the IT Park in Dagupan is not yet proclaimed because the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is slow in processing the requirements.
She said the DENR is asking too many requirements, from the city and pending submission of these, processing is on hold.
“I guess, we will have to write the DENR for it to lessen the requirements, kasi everything is ready,” she added.
With the IT Park set up in Dagupan, there will be jobs available to graduates in IT from different colleges and universities in Dagupan who normally go to other places, including abroad, in search of jobs after graduation.
An IT Park must need at least one hectare of land where its building and facilities will be situated, said Plaza.
“We will try our best to help Dagupan,” Plaza said, adding that after complying with the requirements from DENR, the economic zone must first be approved by the PEZA board before it is finally approved by President Duterte.
Plaza said Dagupan has also the potential to become an agri-fishery zone on account of its famous agricultural product, bangus, and in view of the fact that the city is the center of fish trading in Pangasinan.
Other proposed economic zones in Pangasinan are located in Sual, Lingayen, Urdaneta City and Alaminos City. (Leonardo Micua)
