THE provincial office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reiterated its reminder to consumers to be vigilant and remember to assert their consumer rights when buying products to ensure their protection and get the best value for their money.

Natalia Dalaten, officer-in-charge provincial director of DTI Pangasinan, stressed that the best way to be well-informed is to fully understand the rights reserved for consumers.

Consumer’s rights include:

-Right to basic needs guarantees quality of life and adequate food, clothing, shelter, health care, education and sanitation.

-Right to safety that ensures protection against products or services that are hazardous to health and life.

-Right to information provides protection against deceptive advertising or labelling and has the right to be given the facts and information needed to make an informed choice.

-Right to choose gives the consumer the right to select among products and services at competitive prices with an assurance of satisfactory quality.

-Right to representation is the right to express consumer interest in the making and execution of government policy.

-Right to redress provides the right to be compensated for misrepresentation, shoddy goods or unsatisfactory services.

-Right to consumer education conveys the right to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to be an informed consumer.

-Right to healthy environment is the right to live and work in an environment which is neither threatening nor dangerous and which permits a life of dignity and well-being.

Dalaten said that on the “No Return, No Exchange” policy, consumers can avail of the remedies only when products are found to be defective and “change of mind” is not covered under the Consumer Act of the Philippines.

She urged the public to report their complaints against trade exploitations and deceptive sales at DTI-Pangasinan Provincial Office located at the 2nd floor of Star Building, Arellano Street in Dagupan City or call at telephone numbers (075)-551-3183 or 529-6177 or email at RO1pangasinan@dti.gov.ph.
