Capitol launches Plastic for Goods program
LINGAYEN– To underscore and further promote need to protect the country’s environment and ecological balance, the provincial government is set to launch its province-wide “Plastics for Goods” program dubbed Kalinisan Karaban on January 26 on a pilot basis at the Capitol grounds.
A brainchild of Governor Amado Espino III, the Kalinisan Karaban invites residents to collect plastic wastes, i.e., pet bottles, shampoo sachets, sando bags, food wrappers, candy wrappers, Styrofoam, etc. register in the program in order to qualify for the exchange.
During Kalinisan Karaban Shopping Day set by the provincial government, collected plastic wastes will be weighed and its corresponding monetary value will be recorded on the cards issued by the provincial government.
Three municipalities and one city, including Bugallon, Bautista, Tayug and San Carlos City are selected as pilot areas to jumpstart this environment-friendly project.
To claim goods and other incentives, participants only need to present their ledger cards to the established Kalinisan Karaban mobile store where grocery items, school supplies and other goods are stored.
General Services Officer Evan Gladish O. Domalanta said Kalinisan Karaban will be conducted four times in one month.
Designated Kalinisan Karaban team will visit one town weekly to collect plastic waste items and exchange these with grocery items.
Domalanta expressed confidence that the program will help develop deeper commitment among Pangasinenses to protect Mother Earth through proper waste segregation. (PIO/SMDG)
