Gov. Espino tells young athletes: ‘You are the future leaders’

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – “Respect plays a big role in the field of sports.”
This was bared by Governor Amado I. Espino, III as he led the opening ceremony of the Batang Pinoy 2019 Provincial Try-outs on January 19 held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) Gymnasium.
Instilling in the minds of young athletes the value of respect and discipline in sports, Governor Espino also urged the athletes to recite their oath of sportsmanship with enthusiasm and full commitment.
“Ang matututunan niyo sa sports ay inyong bibitbiting hanggang sa inyong pagtanda dahil ang sports ay puhunan para sa magandang buhay,” he said noting that sports sharpens not only youth’s endurance in physical activities but also their outlook in life.
“You are the future leaders of the province,” he added.
Hence, to further support and hone local homegrown athletes in Pangasinan, Governor Espino said, a provincial sportsfest is in the works which shall also serve as official selection for future delegation of Team Pangasinan in all local and national sports competitions.
The provincial chief executive also exhorted parents, teachers and coaches to be of guidance to the young Pangasinenses in molding their sports prowess and in the attainment of their dreams.
Provincial Sports Development and Management Council (PSDMC) Executive Director Modesto M. Operania, on the other hand, commended all delegates of Team Pangasinan for their sterling accomplishments in the 2018 Batang Pinoy National Championships.
The province of Pangasinan ranked 5th, out of 100 other local government units (LGUs), after clinching a total of 71 medals (24 gold medals, 23 silver and 24 bronze medals) in the weeklong national championships.
The simultaneous provincial try-outs were held from Jan 19-20 in the following venues:
Archery- Capitol Resort Hotel; Arnis- Pangapisan Elementary School; Athletics- NRSCC Track and Field Oval; Badminton- NRSCC Gymnasium; Basketball (Boys and Girls)- NRSCC Outdoor Court; Boxing- NRSCC Grandstand; Chess- NRSCC Administrative Building; Dancesport- PSAT Covered Court; Karatedo – NRSCC Gymnasiun; Lawn Tennis- NRSCC Tennis Court; Sepak Takraw – NRSCC Outdoor Court; Swimming – NRSCC Swimming Pool; Table Tennis- PESDC Bldg.; Taekwondo- PNHS Covered Court; Indoor Volleyball- NRSCC Outdoor Court; Beach Volleyball- Capitol Beachfront. /Shiella Mae C.
