Six schools get STARBOOKS ‘virtual libraries’
CALASIAO–The Department of Science and Technology Region 1 (DOST-1) in collaboration with the Office of Deputy Speaker Rose Marie Arenas, awarded STARBOOKS, ‘virtual libraries’ to six recipient-schools in the Third District.
DOST’s STARBOOKS is a stand-alone information kiosk that contains thousands of digitized science and technology resources in various formats (text and video/audio) set in a very user-friendly interface and can be accessed without an Internet connection.
Arenas, assisted by Dr. Armando Q. Gan of DOST Region 1, handed over the Certificates of Donation to Libas National High School in San Carlos City, Doyong-Malabago National High School in Calasiao, Banaoang National High School in Santa Barbara, Canan National High School in Malasiqui, Sanlibo National High School in Bayambang and Baloling National High School in Mapandan.
The awarding was also graced by Movie and Television Review and Classification Board Chair Rachel J. Arenas and San Carlos City Mayor Joseres Resuello.
DOST said STARBOOKS aim to create interest in the field of Science and Technology which may increase the number of Filipinos enrolling in S&T courses, to encourage great and curious minds to develop new ideas ‐‐ inventions and innovations; and to inspire one’s capacity for entrepreneurship and research for socio‐economic development.
STARBOOKS is beneficial to schools in remote areas with little or no access to the Internet and rely solely on the limited books in the libraries. (PhilStar Wire Service)
