Dengue kills 25, cases up by 74%
LINGAYEN–Twenty-five persons have died of mosquito-borne dengue fever in 14 towns and three cities in the province that led to a 74 percent increase in cases from January to date.
This was the update from the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
In a report by Rodhalia Binay-an of PHO, the cases this year totaled 7,707 compared to last year’s 4,434 that recorded 15 deaths.
The deaths this year were reported in Anda, Lingayen, Mapandan, San Carlos City, Pozorrubio, Sison, Urdaneta City and San Fabian. All had two deaths each.
One death each was reported in Dagupan City, San Quintin, Rosales, Balungao, Asingan, Bayambang, Mangaldan, Binmaley and Bugallon.
Meanwhile, PHO has placed the following in its dengue watch list: Urdaneta City (615 cases), San Carlos City (444), Alaminos City (434), Pozorrubio (405), Binmaley (402), Mangaldan (387), Asingan (319), Bayambang (317), Mapandan (256) and Manaoag (251).
Dagupan City (not under the PHO because it is an independent component city) has reported 436 dengue cases.
The youngest dengue victim this year was a two-month-old baby boy while the oldest was an 86-year-old female.
The age group with the highest number of cases was 10-14 years old for male, similar to the female with 758 cases.
August had the most number of cases with 1,201 followed by September with 840 and October with 652. This trend was similar last year. (PhilStar Wire Service)
