LINGAYEN – Former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief and now Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General, Ronald “Bato” M. dela Rosa, cited the provincial government’s unwavering support for PNP’s war on illegal drugs and assured the latter of continuing gains in the campaign.

“Alam ko na ang Pangasinan ay maganda ang records sa war on drugs,” said Dela Rosa as he expressed confidence that the campaign against illegal drugs under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte will succeed.

Dela Rosa said that his passion to curb illegal drugs in the country remains unchanged as the BuCor chief.

Stressing that President Duterte cannot win this battle alone, he urged Pangasinenses and policemen to sustain PNP programs to address the drug problem.

He updated the provincial officials on the war on drugs with efforts from within the New Bilibid Prison which was notorious for keeping convicted drug lords that managed to operate drug operations in the country.

“I cannot claim that we have completely stopped the drug trade but it is now a fact that illegal drug trading involving detainees are having a hard time,” Dela Rosa said.

He said he made sure that no cellphones and other gadgets could get inside the Bilibid and have isolated the drug lords, particularly the convicted 106 Chinese drug traders and eliminated the brigade system to stop communication among them.

Arriving on motorcycle at the Capitol Plaza with his team of riders, Dela Rosa was received by Gov. Amado Espino III, Sangguniang Panlalawigan members led by Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr., and department heads led by Provincial Administrator Nimrod S. Camba.

Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPO) Acting Provincial Director PSSupt. Wilson Joseph F. Lopez, who escorted General dela Rosa from Urdaneta City to the Capitol Plaza, led police officers province-wide to welcome their former chief.

After a brief program, the former chief PNP paid a courtesy call on the governor.

Last year, Dela Rosa as PNP Director-General presented a citation to the governor for the Espino administration’s support for PNP’s campaign against illegal drugs during the 115th Police Service Anniversary celebration held at Camp Florendo in San Fernando City, La Union on September 2.
