235 drug surrenderers in Alcala take drug tests
THE more than 200 drug users and pushers in Alcala town who surrendered were subjected to drug tests as part of the continuing anti-drug program of the town.
And all proved negative of drug use.
P/Chief Inspector Ferdinand Lopez, chief of police in Alcala, said there were 312 that surrendered who were asked to take the drug test but only 235 arrived.
He said the tests were submitted to the PNP laboratory in Lingayen.
Lopez said 70 others who were not able to take the drug test had earlier asked to be excused since they are already living in other places will be given another chance to take the drug test.
The Alcala Police Station recently reported that 30 original drug surrenderers were eventually arrested and charged in court after they were caught in buy-bust operations. All are now detained at the BJMP jail in Urdaneta.
Ten others are still undergoing treatment in a private rehabilitation unit.
The town of Alcala was among the 28 municipalities in Pangasinan that have been declared drug-cleared by the regional oversight committee.
To ensure that the town will remain drug cleared, the local PNP is closely monitoring activities of all the drug surrenderers and has intensified its anti-illegal drugs operations with the guidance of the PDEA. (Nora Dominguez)
