Honoraria for teachers delayed

FOR ELECTION SERVICES RENDERED

AFTER providing vital services to the nation by serving as Board of Election Tellers (BET), Board of Election Inspectors and Canvassers, tired teachers were disappointed to learn that they will again have to wait for government to pay them what’s due them in honoraria.

The teachers were informed that promised early payment of honorarium for them would be delayed because the Land Bank of the Philippines electronic system suffered a glitz that caused the system to be offline.

The teachers had expected to withdraw their compensation after performing duties for almost two days straight from election to canvassing of votes for the barangay and sangguniang kabataan elections in Pangasinan.

Miguel Ballesteros, election officer in Urdaneta, said the compensation was expected to be released on May 16, but the cash cards were only distributed on that day through May 17.

Making matters worse the Landbank’s ATM system went offline that prevented them from using the cash cards.

Lawyer Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor, ordered all municipal and city election officers to prioritize the issuance of the cash cards that contain ₱7,500 and cash allowance of ₱475 for election tellers, ₱5,700 and cash allowance of ₱475 for the clerks, and ₱6,100 and cash allowance of ₱475 for the chairmen of boards of canvassers.

Salas said a total of 18,830 teachers served during the barangay and SK elections. (Nora Dominguez)
