Triathletes hail 4th Tigasin Triathlon
BIGGER AND BETTER
LINGAYEN—Some 600 triathletes in the country who took part in the 4th Tigasin Triathlon, a post-activity of the Pista’y Dayat 2018 celebration in Pangasinan held at the Capitol Complex on May 12-13, were unanimous in their verdict that this year’s edition was “bigger and better organized”.
Among those who congratulated this year’s organizers were Juan Carlos Abad of NCC Tri Team who won the open category male, trailed by Raymund Torio (2nd place) of Go For Gold and Jefferson Valdez (3rd place) of Sante Barley Team.
Torio, a resident of this town, admitted that as a ‘newbie’ in triathlon, his transition from duathlon was challenging.
Meanwhile, Kim Kilgroe of Team De Rosa was first to finish in the open category female followed by Vicky Deldio (2nd place) of Pampanga’s Best and Sandi Menchi (3rd place) of Team Podium Boutique Hotel.
Top three winners received medals and cash prizes: 1st place – ₱50,000, 2nd place – ₱35,000, and 3rd place – ₱20,000.
The open-water swim competition was cancelled due to unstable waves in the sea, but the standard distance and standard sprint for male and female and age groups were held as scheduled.
Now on its fourth year, the Tigasin Triathlon was organized by the Trisports Solution Inc. and sponsored by the Northern Cement Corp. in partnership with the Provincial Government of Pangasinan.
Elated by the enthusiastic response of multisport buffs, Trisports Solution Inc. event head Mikey Chua credited the provincial government’s support for the event’s huge success.
Tigasin Triathlon is the Filipino version of Ironman Triathlon, an international franchise of triathlon organized by the World Triathlon Corp. (PIO)
