THREE vehicles parked inside the premises of the Roman Catholic Church on Avenida Street East in Poblacion Lingayen were gutted in a fire initially caused by one car 10:30 a.m. of March 19.

Police investigation showed that the KIA van with plate no. UPL 707 owned by Rudy Torio, 74 years old, a resident of Barangay Balococ in Lingayen caught fire initially and spread to other two vehicles parked near it.

The two other vehicles that caught fire were a Mitsubishi Lancer with plate number AJA 8462 owned by Angelita Estrada and a Nissan Terrano with plate # XBX 261 owned by Jesus Gallardo was also burned.

The fire station responded and declared fire out an hour later.

F/Inspector Richard Santillan said the fire was triggered by faulty wiring to the car stereo.

He said the owner of the van, Torio, parked his car and went inside the church when her daughter saw thick smoke inside the car and called help from the duty guard.

No one was hurt in the incident, Santillan said.

He advised car owners to always have their cars checked and to have a portable fire extinguisher in their units. (Nora Dominguez)
