Gov. Pogi spearheads ‘Adopt-a-Mountain’ protection program

LINGAYEN – Governor Amado I. Espino, III led the Adopt-a-Mountain ‘Plantation Maintenance and Protection’ Program of the provincial government in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources held in Barangay Cayanga in Bugallon on January 26.
Reinforcing the tree-planting movement dubbed “Pangasinan Onward Greening Initiative” launched in August 2017, this activity served as a sequel to the earlier greening program which aims to safeguard and ensure high-rise survivals of the seedlings planted in Barangay Cayanga.
The maintenance and protection activity was participated in by some 200 participants including Provincial Administrator Nimrod S. Camba, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) chief Nathaniel Pulido, Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction and Management Officer (PDRRMO) Ret.Col. Rhodyn Luchinvar O. Oro, Management Service Office chief Modesto R. Singson, Provincial Warden’s Officer Ferdinand T. Natividad, municipal officials, barangay officials and some employees of the provincial government.
The Philippine Army and Philippine National Police of Bugallon also provided security assistance during the activity.
It can be recalled that over 5,000 seedlings to include the variety of narra, mahogany, cashew, acacia mangium and eucalyptus were planted while seeds of ipil-ipil were sprinkled on the 5-hectare plantation lot.
Gov. Espino earlier pledged to maintain this environment-friendly drive to make sure that the seedlings will grow.
ENRO chief Pulido said that this activity is also a preparation in case of forest fire in the 20-hectare lot adopted by the provincial government in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
As such, they are planning to conduct protection and maintenance activities weekly through the ENRO employees grouped by cluster to further intensify the greening program in Bugallon.
The Adopt-A-Mountain program is a brainchild project of Gov. Espino and initiated by the ENRO which targets to dome the plantation lot in Barangay Cayanga with thousands of seedlings. /Shiella Mae C. De Guzman
