SIXTY households in 10 barangays received food production assistance under the Integrated Community Production Project of the national government on January 24.
The project was facilitated by the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) in partnership with the city government through the City Agriculture Office and the City Nutrition Office.
The project responds to beneficiaries’ need for food especially those with nutritional issues involving their children.
Mayor Belen T. Fernandez said the food production assistance will augment the income of the family by encouraging housewives to engage in backyard gardening and livestock raising.
“Ito ay pandagdag sa income ng kanilang mga asawa na engaged sa carpentry works para magkaroon sila ng stable na food in the table and to enable them to send their children to school.” said Fernandez.
City Agriculture Officer Emma J. Molina said the recipients will be organized as an organization and the city will regularly make an assessment to help them develop a livelihood activity.
Molina assured each recipient will be monitored weekly by her office and the City Nutrition Office to asses their needs.
Each of the recipients received cuttings of sweet potato and cassava, two pieces of banana plants (saba), five pairs of chicken and ducks, bags of animal manure and organic fertilizers, assorted vegetable seeds, a kilo of African night crawler, sprinkler, seedling tray, pick mattock, rake, hoe and shovel.
