LTFRB apprehends 2 more colorum buses, 1 van
P1-M FINE, 3-MONTH IMPOUNDMENT
TWO mini-buses and one utility van being used for commuter service were apprehended on January 17 by the Land Transportation and Franchising Board (LTFRB) along Tapuac Road in Dagupan City in its continuing drive against colorum vehicles.
This brought to five the number of colorum buses already apprehended in Pangasinan and also fined P1 million each since LTFRB intensified its crackdown on colorum vehicles.
Atty. Veronica Peralta, LTFRB legal officer, said the mini-buses plying the Lingayen-Dagupan route, were initially flagged down by LTFRB enforcers for being old and worn out but when the drivers could not produce the registration and franchise documents, these were later determined to be colorum.
Their operators were slapped with P1 million fine each and the vehicles were ordered impounded for three months at the LTFRB impoundment area in San Fernando City, La Union.
The operator of the colorum van was slapped with P200,000 fine in addition to the impoundment of the vehicle also for three months.
Peralta said three other buses in Pangasinan and a number of vans commuting passengers from Dagupan to Manaoag and vice versa earlier apprehended by LTFRB were fined P1 million each (for the buses) and P200,000 each for the vans.
LTFERB warned owners of colorum jeepneys that will be also apprehended will be fined P50,000 each and their units will also be impounded for one month.
Peralta called on commuters not to ride or patronize colorum vehicles because if these are involved in vehicular accidents and get hurt, they cannot claim for damages against insurance usually required of duly registered vehicles. (Leonardo Micua)
