THE campaign against illegal drugs remains a priority for the city government.

This was stressed by City Mayor Belen Fernandez to P/Superintendent Jandale Sulit, newly appointed officer-in-charge at the Dagupan City Police Station when the latter called on the mayor at her office at the City Museum.

Sulit was appointed in an OIC capacity to succeed P/Superintendent Franklin Ortiz,  city’s chief of police for nine months.

Fernandez directed Sulit, whose appointment she said she welcomed, to spare no one in the campaign against illegal drugs, particularly since all of the city’s 31st barangays have already been drug-cleared under Ortiz.

She reminded the new OIC not only to maintain high police visibility in all areas as vowed by the latter, but also for all police personnel to extend maximum courtesy and respect to all residents.

As the mayor reiterated her support for the police, she said she expects the police to continue setting up checkpoints especially during nighttime to deter crimes against life and property and to assist traffic enforcers in maintaining order in the city streets.

“Our city is providing P9.4 million for the improvement of logistics and training of SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team of the police. In addition, the CSWDO (City Social Welfare and Service Office) is fully supporting all of the social programs of the PNP,” said Fernandez.

Fernandez also invited Sulit to meet the rescue teams of the city working under B.E.L.E.N. 16911, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and Public Order and Safety Office (POSO), the local Council for the Protection of Children, and Peace and Order Council.

Sulit was chief of Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management of the Western Police District before he was assigned as OIC of the Dagupan police.

Fernandez took the occasion to thank Supt. Ortiz for his service to the city albeit for nine months only. (Leonardo Micua)
